The Big Stevia Bluff

The well-known qualities of Stevia promise a lot - but is it really safe?

Not everyone is enthusiastic about stevia moving into the mainstream. Although it has a long history of use, there are fears of using stevia and its extracts in a wide variety of products. The European Union has forbidden the use of natural Stevia leafs, but allowed Stevia extracts, called Steviolglycosids (E960). The form in which stevia is primarily used as a sweetener in Europe is that of a white powder extract. This white powder is an extract of the sweet glycosides (natural sweetening agents) mixed with sugar or sugar substitutes. The natural effects of Stevia and its benefits compared to other sweeteners get lost. Experts warn from using these substances excessively and recommend to avoid sweetening dishes as much as possible.

Höllinger fights against fattening beverages at schools

BIO Austria and gutessen consulting raise the alarm: A quarter up to 90% of beverages offered at Austrian schools are strongly sugary and therefore increase the risk for pupils to come down with obesity.1) Already two years ago a study of AMA approved that Austrian children have strong deficiencies in tasting and smelling due to their wrong eating and drinking habits.2)

These results call for immediate action and reinforce Gerhard Höllinger in his attitude towards his beverages: Only the best quality is good enough for our children.

Höllinger's concept for schools:
